GEORGE BUSH sent this dealer-collector a SELF-TYPED (so noted by secretary) letter in 1993 that has proven to be one of the more revealing statements he has written. Dated 1993 from Kennebunkport, Maine, one page (GHWB, Sr.):

"Yours was a most thoughtful letter. Every once in awhile something very unexpected and pleasant happens. Your letter was such a happening. I know of the public perceptions about me and about my administration; but I also know of what is in my heart, what I feel, and, yes, what I tried to do. That you saw someone a little kinder and gentler after reading that letter I wrote to a grieving father makes me very happy.
